More tenants needed for ‘landlord’ role

East Devon District Council’s tenants and leaseholders are being given the opportunity to stand for selection to the Housing Review Board, the committee that oversees the Council’s landlord functions.

The Housing Review Board (HRB) is made up of five district councillors, five tenants (one of whom could be a leaseholder) and two independent representatives from the wider community, each serving for an initial term of four years.

The board meets five times a year, on Thursday mornings, considering issues such as monitoring of performance,

promoting good practice and overseeing improvements to the housing service, including the promotion of tenant involvement.
There could also be the chance to sit on short-term ‘task and finish forum’/working parties that deal with specific issues such as parking on the Council’s estates, service restructuring or property re-let times.

This is a voluntary role and needs members who are fairly confident, can say their piece in a constructive way, can work with others, understand services and priorities for tenants and who are willing to undertake some training to equip them more fully for this challenging and crucial role.

Housing Ombudsman Investigation into Damp and Mould

The Housing Ombudsman Service - they are responsible for resolving complaints against social and private landlords - are carrying out an investigation into damp and mould issues experienced in rented properties across the country. They are asking for evidence of damp or mould issues in your home to support this. The deadline for submissions is Friday 4th June. More information about this can be found on their website.

New contractor appointed to maintain our 4,200 properties

We have appointed a new partner, Ian Williams Ltd,  to maintain our council homes from 1st July 2019. More information on what this means for our tenants can be found here.

Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy 2019-2023

Our new Homelessness and rough sleeper strategy has been produced, setting out how we intend to help minimise rough sleeping and prevent homelessness. More details on this can be found here.

Homelessness Reduction Act

The new Homelessness Reduction Act has now come into force, with effect from April 2018. This increases the requirements for EDDC to help people who are either homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. More information on this can be found here.

The Housing Annual Report 2017 is now available and will be sent out to all tenants with the December 2017 Housing Matters magazine.

Accommodation required for Syrian refugees

Are you a local landlord in East Devon with family sized property that is vacant? East Devon District Council are looking for suitable properties with 2 bedrooms or more to help provide accommodation for Syrian refugees as part of the Syrian vulnerable person resettlement programme (VPR).
